Planning Division Triumphs Over Chaos
Situation
A planning and development division of a resort city had staff, who, for the
most part, worked well together, even though several new members came onboard in
planning positions. The workload piled up. The strain of politics due to blame
from City Council and the public on differing views threatened to elevate an
already full agenda to near chaos. The team was cynical about the situation and
lacked energy in moving the agenda forward.
A lack of trust between the relatively new director and his deputy disrupted
communication within the department. People were not forthright in
communicating all the necessary information, and “the left hand didn’t know what
the right hand was doing,” the client reported.
Solution
Champion Leaders addressed the ongoing chaos head on by focusing the team on
the most important initiatives and creating an action plan that was accepted by
the entire team. Both mental and emotional powers focused in one direction, on
one primary set of results.
Champion Leaders taught the division leaders simple principles for managing
change and effective communication to address the fundamental issues they
avoided. Champion Leaders provided the data to showcase progress and valuable
lessons from past experiences. Our work together spotlighted successful
strategies for discipline and follow-through.
Results
As a result of Champion Leaders' efforts, the client retained 100 percent of
its staff, giving them over a 2000% return on their investment of Champion
Leaders' year-long program. The group achieved 85% of their top ten initiatives
for the year. They are recruiting top talent from around the country and
streamlined the back office processes creating a more efficient, productive
organization.
