Manager Applauds His 10 Percent Raise
Situation
A senior-level manager’s role was to implement new programs on various
internal and client based support systems. He was a natural at recognizing and
anticipating problems others could not see long before they became issues for
the company. Although the client offered great ideas for the company’s
direction, he lacked the confidence and verbal skills to communicate his visions
to the CEO and leadership team. He felt he couldn’t discern specific
executives’ agendas and he lacked the respect he desired.
The senior executive hired Champion Leaders to boost his communication skills
and better influence and understand executives’ agendas. He also wanted to
improve execution of his programs.
Solution
In our coaching sessions, we developed a customized, personal program that
analyzed corporate issues and offered proven, effective strategies to
heightening results. We role played various communication situations to
determine the best way to articulate his story using his natural, easy going and
trusting style. We considered the needs, motivations and fears of leadership so
that he could deploy various strategies appropriate to specific individuals and
situations he intended to influence. As the coaching unfolded, he cultivated
significant strategies to use with the parent company in St. Louis. These tools
helped to open the door with his business unit CEO. Key people began to listen.
Results
Over the course of our coaching relationship, our client increased his
visibility and achieved a trusting, open relationship with the CEO at the St
Louis headquarters. He became very successful in influencing decisions. In
fact, he now enjoys a 10 percent raise.
His performance improved as he refined goals to whisk him from concept to
reality and developed new cross-functional strategic partners. His performance
evaluation featured exceedingly positive comments about effective communication,
positive influence and his measurable value to the company.
Now he confidently keeps himself on target, stretches his business goals and
trusts himself to be a more effective communicator to achieve the full support
of his executives.
